Years later in California, a bond of friendship was created through a love for old cars and punk rock music. Soon after, a couple more were brought into the pack. Now, with the salty sea in their hearts, armed with instruments of love and hate, and a lusting hunger for blood and violence... prepare yourselves... Are you ready to Die!? Its... THE SEA WOLVES!!! be warned, OUR ROCK WILL FUCK YOU!

DIXON, MFSF, & OUTSHINED @ THE BLUE LAGOON: Monday, August 22nd

SF/Oakland
Punk / Rock

TUCSON, Arizona
(A blend of Zappa/Elfman meets MC5 and Devo)
MFSF! are definitely one of those bands that have to be experienced to be believed. Mr. Free, he is not just a singer- he’s a performer. Often with bizarre makeup, costumes, and drooling paint, this group doesn’t just play…they put on a show. He winds his way through the audience, toying with fans—getting in their faces, rubbing against them, sitting among them. He can be frightening, hilarious and confrontational, but never boring. It's a delicate balancing act between music and performance art. The performance would be enough in itself, but then there’s the music- dense, dark, whimsical and everything in between, MFSF! manages to create music that is both complex and hook-filled. Which would account for the invitation the band received to play huge Mess with Texas event at SXSW, which had them sharing the stage with the likes of X, The Breeders and No Age.

MFSF!’s debut album Guru Gaga is released on Bloat Records (home to acts like Bob Log III and Winelord) and was described by the Tucson Weekly as “being brilliant both in composition and execution—something that can easily get lost in the spectacle of Mr. Free's live performances.”The band is gearing up for a summer/fall supporting their forthcoming 7" EP, Snakes in Orifice.

OUTSHINED
San Francisco, CA
Rock
Outshined is a four-piece hard rock band from San Francisco, California, whose music defies the very nature of what a rock band is expected to sound like in 2011. Owing their origin to the grit and grime of the Tenderloin district's stained streets, their sound churns with heavy tones of urban decay and dense fog. Armed with powerful presence and crushing live performances, Outshined cuts to the core of raw human emotion, extracting from it the tools they will use to build their empire of true hard rock.

Dulcet Tone, Melvoy, Candysound, The Cat From Hue, & Jupiter @ THE BLUE LAGOON: Wednesday, August 24th

Wednesday August 24th 2011

Santa Cruz, CA
Indie/Punk
Been around since May of 2009 and have seen many lineup changes since then. As of now Angus, Nick, Peter, and Jacob make up Dulcet Tone, continue to fight the good fight, and do what we do best: write songs and be assholes to each other.

San Francisco, CA

Bellingham, Washington
Indie / Other
"A Bellingham-based guitar/drum duo, Candysound's songs are rife with super-catchy melodies and carefully crafted pop rock hooks. Tom Fitzgibbon's shuffling drum beats are a perfect match for Teo Crider's jangly guitar and charmingly subtle vocals." -EMP Sound Off! Panel (Seattle)

"...the result is a fabulously original sounding “thing” coming from these fellows. The title track [Million] was certainly one of the best songs I’ve heard this year, Crider’s Stratocaster and Fitzgibbon’s skin working like a fine oiled machine..." -Boris Budd, What's Up! Magazine (Bellingham)

"[Candysound] write almost-instantly-hummable pop songs of understated beauty that suggest immersion in the Zombies' Odessey and Oracle and some of those underrated Merge bands from the '90s, like Butterglory. Candysound's handle could lead you to expect twee OD, but thankfully they're more about nutritious fruitiness than that teeth-rotting junk." -Dave Segal, The Stranger (Seattle)

"Candysound are adorable. They're fresh-faced, mop-topped youngsters from Bellingham whose MySpace page says they've "been lucky enough to share a variety of stages with some rad bands/people including: Parenthetical Girls, Evangelicals, PWRFL Power, the Lonely Forest," and much more. So humble. Adorable! But they use their adorableness as a kind of judo to flip your expectations at every turn: When you see them take the stage, you half expect some kind of cushy, fluffy boy band that sings chaste ballads about holding hands. And then they play and it's rock that alternates from jangly, mopey heart-tugging choruses to balls-out murder riffs in the same song, and suddenly they're not adorable anymore; they're just really, really good." -Paul Constant, The Stranger (Seattle)

Washington
Indie / Psychedelic / Rock
Washington State indie rockers The Cat from Hue play songs which mix a dash of the Dead, a dollop of Modest Mouse, a teaspoon full of funk and even a pinch of the stuff George Harrison wrote for the Beatles into that quintessential Pacific Northwest indie sound." - ..BlogMonterey
"The Cat From Hue does an excellent job of bottling all of their sounds and noises into dense packages of pop, rock, folk, psychedelia or whatever you want to call it.".. -AS REVIEW .. .. .."The Cat From Hue is from Camano Island. We can only assume then that "Hue" is some sort of self-referential island slang. Handclaps, guitars with a slight twang, soulful harmonies, and implications of impossible rooms tastefully decorate their bustling tunes. Fans of The Raggedy Anns' skiffle rock, and those who have ever wished for an upbeat Castanets, would do well to listen to Stumble On, where those elements make an appearance, but the arrangement makes them shine.".. -Seattlest .. .. .."The Cat From Hue are a clever and instrumentally varied band whose songs coast effortlessly through introspective landscapes of narrative songwriting. With radiant guitars and subtly haunting vocals, this Camano Island, Wash. quintet has created an indie folk sound that is decidedly original".. -Sound off panel .. .. .."The five members of this psych-folk outfit sound sweet, with jazz-inspired drums, swirling guitars, and inviting melodies. But don't let The Cat From Hue's warmth fool you; these guys know how to write a biting lyric about the Seattle music industry. Enter "Welcome Back the Rain": "I hear the Puget Sound is the land of the green/I reciprocate the meaning with a speech about the scene." It's a hard sentiment to refute.".. -Seattle Weekly .. .. .."The music itself draws from a plethora of influences. Modest Mouse, Grizzly Bear, Portugal. The Man, and 'of course, the '60's throwbacks' - the Beatles definitely pop into a few tracks. So far, the eclectic influences are working.".. -Stanwood/Camano News

In 2005 Jupiter came out with their debut EP and after years of shows with bands such as Neon Trees, Fallout Boy, Rooney, Shiny Toy Guns, Kill Hannah, Metro Station and many more and multiple tours of the western United States, they decided it was time for a change. After a three year hiatus, in which the three brothers that comprise Jupiter redefined themselves both individually and musically, their debut full length album entitled Love Campaign is finished. Taking influence from Alt-Country, Rock, Folk, and Blues, Jupiter has created an album that represents their growth and progression over the past three years.

Jupiter are:
Jordan Doverspike (Guitar/Vocals)
Evan Doverspike (Guitar/Vocals)
Aaron Doverspike (Drums/Vocals)

The Best Friends, Zula, Emperor X, & And Hod @ THE BLUE LAGOON: Wednesday, August 31st

Wednesday August 31st 2011

On Saturday, August 13, Zula and Emperor X announced The California’s Poppy Tour, a tour and content project focused on the seemingly-endless re-creation of California’s splendor through technology, media, and controlled, selective experiences of nature and history.

SANTA CRUZ, California, US
Folk / Other / Rock
Hod is but a man, one man recording himself, railing against the ding dong of doom. But Hod understands you, understands your connection to the real, about the way you engage with geography (based in the past, close to the future), about how you get your trees to grow... and the world of the bugs and the sea animals that you study closely, putting a lens to what dosen´t seem visible, and making it real but also surprising, sometimes sensational, like all the escaping animals... and we will say "Can that really be?" We will have to understand that the animals have a life of their own outside our perception. Of course that again makes space for further speculation. Now is his closeness to the present, his songs conceived in the choo choo of thought; passing quickly, leaving the track, but also leaving a track. "I try not encase my songs in any time frame or space, but innately fail because I wear a big yellow watch.... That ticks.... Loudly." Hod

Los Angeles, CA
Emperor X (project of the charismatic LA-based Chad Metheny) leads communal, energetic downstrum-dub acoustic/electronic rhythms, anchored by ear-worm melodies and lyrics steeped in the rich materialism of Chad’s physical science background. Chad has developed a communicative, relate-able, fanatical stage presence over the course of almost a decade of touring, through multiple album releases garnering critical acclaim from Pitchfork, NPR, The Onion, and many more. Emperor X’s most recent full length Western Teleport arrives October 4th on Bar/None records. Music Sample: Erica Western Teleport

New York, NY
Zula is riding a swell of creativity and hard work as they near their first birthday. Zula’s live sound is energetic and propulsive, dealing in tight grooves that provide a bedrock for spatial, interlocking vocal and guitar harmonies. Chief songwriters Henry and Nate Terepka (cousins) bring a personal approach lyrically that focuses on value (morals), time, patterns of behavior, decay, and their experiences living in New York. Flush with songs and ideas, Zula plans to record a debut LP upon returning from California. Music Sample: Get In The Gun

“avant-garde music that's still accessible, and even danceable.”
-Beacon Pass

“Zula is going beyond your typical Indie synth band and tripping into the nether regions of amazing tunes not of this world.”
-The Deli

“Zula's psychedelic aspect is often secondary to the song, largely tied to how they saturate the sonic space with vocals or swells of harmonic tone.”
-Jester Jay

"Jeesus, this music is MAD sneaky"
-Tonya Harding
